After looking into wu-yi tea a bit more I found out that I actually knew what it was, well kind of...  Wu-yi tea is another name for oolong tea which is probably more familiar with many of us than wu-yi.  When you see tea referred to as wu-yi tea, basically it means it is tea that has been harvested from the Wuyi Mountains in the Fujian Province of China.  One of the more prominent teas harvested being oolong tea.  Wu-yi tea is said to have originated over 400 years ago.

According to what I've read so far, oolong tea does in fact have credible health benefits.  In fact it apparently has been used in traditional chinese medicine for decades and is currently still used.  Out of the various health benefits is weight loss promotion.  It's no wonder then that with America's ever growing overweight population that us round eyes are being attracted to wu-yi tea.   It's all very interesting and I'm looking forward to sharing more about it soon.

I don't think it's right to say WuYi is 'another type of oolong' tea.. . .as I have also found WuYi green tea. Green tea & Oolong are not the same thing. I believe WuYi is relative to the region/area from which this tea comes. After finding that out, I'm now wondering which kind of WuYi tea is best for weight loss.

Hi RJ, You are right about the term wu-yi. It does refer to the region which I also pointed out in my blog. I also mentioned that wu-yi is another name used for oolong tea, not that it was another type.

You are also right about green tea and oolong tea being two different teas. The difference is that oolong tea actually has a higher concentration of polyphenol. Both green and black teas also have polyphenol which is a natural quality that fights fat. The oolong tea contains more polyphenol than both black and green teas which is why most people looking to try tea for losing weight turn to oolong. It doesn't mean that green tea can't contribute to weight loss or that it doesn't have health benefits as well, but oolong is the better choice because of its higher levels of polyphenol.
